What to Look For in an Invisalign Provider and Why Patients Choose Dr. Grussmark
Deciding to straighten your teeth with Invisalign is a big step, and choosing who guides you through it is just as important. Brickell has plenty of skilled dental professionals, so it helps to know which questions to ask and what the answers should look like.
This guide covers the factors we’d consider if we were choosing a provider ourselves, and shows how we approach each one at our Brickell office. If you’d rather talk it through with Dr. Stephen Grussmark, call us at 786-563-4973 to book a complimentary virtual consultation.
1. Experience With Invisalign Specifically
Aligners are custom-made, but the treatment plan behind them (meaning which teeth move, in what order, and by how much) comes from your provider’s judgment. That’s why the number of Invisalign cases a provider has completed is a meaningful measure.
Dr. Grussmark has provided Invisalign treatment since the system was introduced in 1999 and has more than 30 years of orthodontic experience. The practice identifies him as the only Sapphire (and Diamond Pro) Invisalign provider in South Florida.
2. Orthodontic Training and Credentials
Both general dentists and orthodontists offer Invisalign. Orthodontists complete additional residency training focused on tooth movement and bite alignment, which can be especially helpful for cases involving overbites, underbites, or crossbites. If you’re weighing aligners against traditional braces, our guide to Invisalign vs. braces lays out the differences.
After serving as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and providing orthodontic care for children of American service members in the Philippine Islands, Dr. Grussmark completed his orthodontic residency at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, where he earned his Master of Science in Dentistry.
3. Seeing Your Results Before You Start
It’s much easier to commit to treatment when you can see where it’s headed.
At your first visit to our office at 848 Brickell Ave., we use an iTero scanner to create a digital 3D model of your teeth, with no messy impressions. We plan your treatment from that model and show you a preview of your expected results before you begin. Because each aligner is customized, our goal is to move only the teeth that need to move. If you’d like to see what patients have achieved, browse our Invisalign results gallery.
4. A Plan That Fits Your Case
Dr. Grussmark treats a wide range of orthodontic cases with Invisalign, including complex cases involving significant crowding and bite discrepancies. Your consultation determines whether Invisalign is appropriate for your specific needs.
Invisalign can address a range of concerns, including:
- Overbites, underbites, and crossbites
- Gaps between teeth
- Crooked or misaligned teeth
Candidacy depends on your oral health, tooth development, bite, and the specific orthodontic concerns being treated. Teens and adults may both be candidates for Invisalign. Not sure where you fit? Our Invisalign candidacy guide is a good place to start, and younger patients can learn about Invisalign Teen.
5. Clear Expectations on Timing and Visits
Here’s what treatment at our office typically looks like:
- Wear Time: Aligners are worn 20 to 22 hours a day. Our Invisalign use and care guide covers cleaning, storage, and daily habits.
- Timeline: Treatment length varies by case, but the practice notes that many Invisalign patients complete treatment in about six to 12 months. More complex cases may take longer.
- Visits: There are no wire adjustments, but regular visits allow Dr. Grussmark to monitor tooth movement and make adjustments to your treatment plan when needed.
- After Treatment: Once your teeth are aligned, a retainer helps keep them there. We explain what to expect in our guide to retainers and orthodontic relapse.
6. Straightforward Cost and Payment Options
Investing in your smile should come with clear numbers. At your consultation, we’ll walk you through your treatment plan and your options, and we offer payment plans. You can also review general information on insurance and financing on our Invisalign cost and financing page.
7. A Location That Works for Your Schedule
Our Brickell office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, and we welcome patients from Brickell, Downtown Miami, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, and Gladeview. If another location is more convenient, we also have offices in Dadeland (Town Centre One, 8950 SW 74th Ct., Suite 1214) and at Merrick Park in Coral Gables (4425 Ponce De Leon Blvd).
What to Expect at Your First Visit
