Planning Your Invisalign Timeline Around Your Event
A wedding, graduation, milestone birthday, quinceañera, or big career moment is often the push people need to finally start straightening their teeth with Invisalign. It also raises a practical question: how far ahead should you begin?
At Invisalign Brickell, part of the Centre for Invisible Orthodontics, Dr. Stephen Grussmark and our team help patients from Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, and Gladeview plan their treatment around the dates that matter most.
The short answer is that the more time you have, the more flexibility you’ll have. But there is no wrong time to ask, and we’d be glad to look at your timeline with you. Call us at 786-563-4973 to book a complimentary consultation.
The Short Answer: Start as Early as You Can
Many of our patients complete Invisalign treatment in about six to 12 months, although your timeline depends on the amount of tooth movement needed and your individual treatment plan. Starting earlier gives you more flexibility if your treatment takes longer than expected or you need refinements before your event.
Starting early also gives you more flexibility if your treatment requires refinements or takes longer than initially projected. If you hope to finish treatment before your event, tell Dr. Grussmark about your target date during your consultation.
Why Your Case Matters More Than the Calendar
Two patients with the same event date can have very different timelines. A few things shape yours:
- How much movement is needed: Minor crowding or small gaps generally take less time than overbites, underbites, or crossbites.
- How consistently you wear your aligners: Aligners are worn 20 to 22 hours a day, and staying on schedule is one of the biggest factors in finishing on time.
- Regular checkups: We recommend a visit about every six weeks, and possibly more often depending on your case, so we can confirm your teeth are tracking the plan.
At your first visit to our Brickell office, we use an iTero scanner to create a digital 3D model of your teeth and preview your expected results. From there, we can talk through where your treatment is likely to stand as your date approaches. Not sure whether Invisalign is right for you? Our candidacy guide is a helpful place to start, and there’s no upper age limit.
What Wearing Aligners at Your Event Looks Like
Many patients worry that aligners will show up in photos or on the day itself. You can generally continue wearing your aligners during the weeks leading up to your event.
Some choose to take them out for the ceremony and photos. Because aligners work best when worn 20 to 22 hours a day, that leaves limited time out of the trays, so it’s worth telling us your plans in advance. We can help you build a routine around the event. Our Invisalign use and care guide covers cleaning, storage, and everyday habits.
Planning for a teen’s prom or graduation? For teens, Invisalign Teen may be an option depending on tooth development and the orthodontic issues being treated.
A Simple Planning Checklist
- Book a consultation as soon as your date is set. Even if you’re closer than you’d like, we can tell you what’s realistic.
- Share your key dates. Tell us about the event, along with any travel or photo sessions, so we can plan around them.
- Ask about your projected timeline after your iTero scan.
- Talk through cost. We offer payment plans, and our Invisalign cost and financing page covers insurance and financing basics.
- Plan for after treatment. A retainer helps keep your new smile in place. Learn more about retainers and orthodontic relapse.
